Jungle Safari

Nepal's Southern lowland known as the Terai is covered with dense tropical jungles teeming with diverse wildlife, exotic birds and reptiles. Here you will find some of the most exciting safari destinations in the world. You will be safari into the deep evergreen jungle will be on the back of an elephant. From this height you will view wild animals in their natural habitat. Other thrills are canoe rides on the jungle rivers, nature walks, bird watching excursions and village tours.

Major Jungle Safari Routes in Nepal


Chitwan National Park

Nepal's first and most famous national park is situated in the lowlands of inner Terai. Covering an area of 932 sq. km the park includes hilly areas covered by deciduous forest. This ecologically diverse area is the last remaining home in Nepal for more than 300 of the endangered Asian one-horned rhinoceros and harbors one of the largest population of the elusive and rare Royal Bengal Tiger. Besides the Rhino and Tiger, Chitwan also supports a great variety of flora and fauna. There are four species of deer, as well as the spotted chital, leopard, sloth bear, wild boar, rhesus monkey, grey langur monkey, wild dog, small wild cats, the white gaur (the world's largestwild cattle) and many other smaller animals.

Always fun and exciting is taking the elephants to the river for "their" bath after being on an excursion into the jungle.

Itinerary

Day 1   Arrival Kathmandu International Airport, welcome and transfer to your hotel with the rest of the day free for leisure activities (sightseeing or rest). Overnight at hotel.

Day 2   After breakfast, half day sightseeing which could include the Pashupatinath Temple, and Bouddhanath Stupa. Enjoy a traditional Nepalese dance program in the evening.

Day 3   After breakfast, transfer to Chitwan by roador fly to Bharatpur and then transfer to hotel in Chitwan. Check into lodge/resort/Camp. Jungle activities after lunch.

Day 4   Full day Jungle activities.

Day 5   After breakfast, either departure transfers to Bharatpur airport for flight to Kathmandu or overland transportation to Kathmandu or Pokhara


Bardia National Park

The Bardia National Park is situated on the eastern banks of the Karnali River, about 400-km west of Kathmandu. The park is 968 sq. km in area and extends from the Churia hills southward to the gentle slopes of the 'Bhabhar'. The western end of the Bardia is bounded by numerous waterways of the Karnali River, which have created many large and small gravel islands. Bardia is the home of a wide variety of animals, many of which live in and around the National Park. Spotted deer, black buck, hog deer, samber deer, wild boar, swamp deer, two species of monkeys, wild elephants, crocodile, dolphin and blue bull are found here. More than 350 species of birds have been recorded in Bardia, truly a bird watcher's paradise.


Itinerary

Day 1   Meeting upon arrival at Kathmandu International airport by our representative, transfer to hotel.

Day 2   Departure to Bardia, arrival at Hotel and Cultural tour to a Tharu village and visit Elephant breeding center.

Day 3   Jungle trek (Chance to see the barking dear, bear, blue cow, rhinos and possibly a Royal Bengal tiger).

Day 4   Day walk to Karnali River to see Dolphins and Elephant Safari.

Day 5   Bird watching and back to Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Day 6   Transfer to airport and departure to your destination or go Pokhara for some more activities such as trekking or sightseeing in the Pokhara valley or hiking near by Pokhara.


Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Camp the very first luxury 24 bedded safari tented camp within Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is one of the exclusive wildlife camps that offers a unique experience to view almost 400 species of bird life and some of the very rare wild game. Staffed with knowledgeable local naturalist and "sikaris" , the camp is most comfortable, safe and haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. The camp consists of 12 large deluxe safari tents with twin beds and simple modern toilet including hot and cold shower facility. The restaurant with fully stocked bar is located centrally on the thatched "Golghar" both Nepali and western cuisine is served which are simple and tasty.


Itinerary

Day 1   Arrival at Kathmandu, transfer to Hotel.

Day 2   Fly or drive to Biratnagar and drive to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.

Day 3   Jungle activities at Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.

Day 4   Safari activities to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.

Day 5   Drive to Biratnagar and fly to Kathmandu.

Day 6   Departure.


Khaptad National Park

Khaptad is Nepal's newest national park, receiving its designation only in 1985. It consists of 225 sq. km of forest and grassland, and lies on a plateau where the districts of Bhajhang, Bajura, Doti and Achham meet. Khaptad Swami among Nepalis, Khaptad is best known as a holy site and is closely associated with a widely renowned scholar and ascetic who lived here for nearly five decades and who was known simply as the 'Khaptad Swami'. The origins and background of Khaptad Swami, who died in 1996 at the grand old reported age of 110, are shrouded in mystery. Some speculate that he was a doctor from India who renounced his worldly life in favor of a purely spiritual existence in a remote part if the holy Himalaya.


Itinerary

Day 1   Arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan Intl. Airport and transfer to hotel. Remainder of the day free.

Day 2   Breakfast Kathmandu city sightseeing, after lunch continue sightseeing. Dinner and night at hotel.

Day 3   Breakfast Transfer to domestic airport. Fly over the Mahendra Nagar, following lunch take a walk along a clear trail to the park at Jhigrana (4 hrs). Night stop at Jhigrana, dinner [Dal-bhat-tarkari typical Nepali's food supplied by our staff].

Day 4   Breakfast Trek start from Jhigrana to village Chorpani (3 hrs), following lunch trek from Chorpani to Khaptad National Park and back to Chorpani. Over night at camp.

Day 5   National Park Program ends, return to Jhigrana about a seven-hour trek. Night stop at Jhigarana

Day 6   After breakfast walk three hours from Jhigrana to Mahendranagar airport, fly back to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel.
